The Christ the King OCDS Community in Kuching is a community of Secular Carmelites comprising lay faithful from different walks of life, including single and married members as well as a widow. United by a common vocation, they seek to live the spirituality of Carmel through prayer, contemplation, fraternity, and service in their daily lives.

The roots of Carmel in Kuching were planted in 1999 through the efforts of Carmelite Friars Fr. John Mary Chin and Fr. Henry Muscat. Inspired by their mission, a pioneering group of women: Catherine Sim, Jacqueline Sammy, Joan Choong, and Phyllis Chung, founded the community during the Great Jubilee on 10 May 2000. Later that year, on 10 November 2000, Archbishop Dato Sri Peter Chung granted official approval for the establishment of the OCDS Community-in-Formation.

Over the years, the community has grown steadily under the guidance of Carmelite priests and dedicated lay leaders. Several presidents have served the community, including Jacqueline Sammy, Catherine Sim, Alice Chew, and Adeline Lee. The current 9th Council is led by Eunice Gan as President, with Alice Chew, Janet Ling, and Robert Lim serving as councillors, while Cynthia Lim serves as Formation Director.

A significant milestone was reached after 22 years as a Community-in-Formation when the community received the Indult of Canonical Erection as a community of the Secular Order of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel. The decree was granted on 12 June 2022, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, marking a historic moment for the Carmelite presence in Kuching.

In addition to their Carmelite formation, members actively serve the Church through ministries such as Eucharistic service, lector ministry, Sunday School teaching, and wardenship. They also contribute to parish life through prayer initiatives, talks, fundraising activities, youth and vocation programmes, support for Carmelite nuns, and the preparation of altar bread, reflecting their commitment to prayer, service, and evangelisation in the spirit of Carmel.
