Fraternity of St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross
(2001) Kuala Lumpur

In 1987, a group of eight lay faithful in Kuala Lumpur, inspired by the writings of St. Teresa of Jesus, came together with the desire to live the Teresian Carmelite spirituality in their daily lives. They began meeting regularly to study the works of St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross, while fostering a life of prayer and fraternity. On 9 March 1988, Rev. Fr. John Mary Chin, OCD, conducted a three-day retreat and formally admitted the group into the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS).

Local statutes for the community were subsequently drafted and received the approval of the General Definitory on 22 December 1994. On 13 June 2001, the community was canonically erected as the Fraternity of St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.

In 2026, the fraternity joyfully celebrated the 25th anniversary of its canonical establishment. Today, its members actively serve in various ministries within their respective parishes while remaining faithful to their Carmelite vocation. The fraternity gathers monthly for formation, prayer, and fraternity, seeking to deepen its relationship with God through the rich spiritual heritage of the Teresian Carmelite tradition.
