Casa Theresia was established as the first Discalced Carmelite friary in Malaysia following discussions between the Carmelite Order and the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur that began in early 2016. The foundation process started on July 12, 2017, when the initial group of friars moved from Singapore to Seremban, temporarily staying with the local Carmelite nuns. On October 4, 2017, the community moved into a bungalow provided by Archbishop Julian Leow. They celebrated their official foundation Mass and blessed their new oratory on November 1, 2017. The community's integration was finalized on January 30, 2018, through a Memorandum of Agreement between the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur and the Carmelite Order. Named after St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the friary celebrated its first major patronal feast day on October 1, 2018, with a public Mass and the veneration of relics focusing on St. Thérèse's "Little Way."

Friar Kenneth of the Cross and Friar Nicholas of Jesus managed the setup and early operations of the friary. Friar Kenneth oversaw the multi-phase renovations needed to turn the bungalow into a functional friary with a cloister, an oratory, and spaces for ministry. Friar Nicholas worked alongside him during the initial setup and was ordained to the priesthood at his home parish on January 31, 2018, before continuing his service in the Seremban community.

The mission of Casa Theresia focuses on supporting the local church by balancing a contemplative identity with an active apostolic life. The friars designed the house as a spiritual oasis, offering regular Confessions and formal Spiritual Direction to the public. Currently, five Malaysian friars serve the Negeri Sembilan district and travel to other parishes in the Archdiocese to assist with Masses, sacraments, and formations. The friars maintain a small physical footprint to focus their resources on spiritual formation and outreach rather than large properties.

On 16 December 2024 the community was canonically erected by the General Superior of the Order with the consent of Most Rev Julian Leow the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur.
