The Carmelite Monastery in Sam Phran was established at the initiative of His Eminence Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu, then Archbishop of Bangkok, who envisioned a new Carmelite monastery within an area dedicated to various religious communities. He desired that the monastery become a place where the Discalced Carmelite nuns could faithfully live the Teresian charism of contemplative prayer, silence, and seclusion, while spiritually supporting the Church through their hidden life of prayer.

Cardinal Michael communicated this vision to Mother Philomena, then Prioress of the Carmelite Monastery in Bangkok, who subsequently sought the approval of the Superior General in Rome. Permission for the new foundation was granted in 1983.

On 5 February 1988, eight Carmelite nuns departed from the Bangkok Carmel to establish the new community at Sam Phran. Just three months later, on 15 May 1988, the monastery was solemnly blessed and officially inaugurated, marking the beginning of the contemplative Carmelite presence in the area.
