The Foundation of the
Secular Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Bangkok

The Secular Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Bangkok traces its origins to 17 March 1970, when Archbishop Joseph Yuang Nitayo granted permission for the establishment of the community. The fraternity was subsequently granted official recognition by the General House of the Discalced Carmelite Order on 28 April 1978, marking its canonical establishment within the Order.

Today, the fraternity gathers monthly for formation and prayer at the meeting room of the Archdiocese of Bangkok. Faithful to the Teresian Carmelite charism, its members seek to deepen their relationship with God through contemplative prayer, ongoing formation, and fraternal life while living out their vocation in the midst of the world.

As of 2025, the fraternity comprises 44 members: 31 with Definitive Promises, 4 with Temporary Promises, 8 members in formation, and 1 aspirant, reflecting the continued vitality and growth of the Carmelite vocation among the lay faithful in Thailand.
